It's fun to remember old times like this one when I got to attend the Royal Meeting at Ascot as an invited guest in the Royal Enclosure. I didn't realize it at the time, but this event has been held for centuries in one form or another and the fashions weren't just window dressing, they were communications and power-brokering tools.
