About this scrapbook page:
I was cleaning out a bookshelf a couple of days ago and came upon a novel entitled "The Winter Garden", with this beautiful cover. I also found a book about roses, in which I found this quote. Both things really moved me, and I wanted to try to combine them into one setting. Why do YOU think Grandmother looked at the withered flower in the old book that way?

Quote reads: Grandmother has a hymn book with great silver clasps, and she often reads in that book; in the middle of the book lies a rose, quite flat and dry. It is not as pretty as the roses she has standing in the glass. And yet she smiles at it most pleasantly of all, and tears even come into her eyes. I wonder why Grandmother looks at the withered flower in the old book that way?

Ahhh...but its never just a rose pressed between the pages of a book. The rose is so much more a memory. I think it was the memory of a forbidden love. Aren't those always the best love stories? Very beautiful page.

I think that her one true love fetched a rose out of the neighbors garden when he came home and found her upset that her internet connection was down and thereby keeping her from from sharing her most beautiful and magical scrapbook pages with the rest of the world. She smiles while looking at it in rememberance that it really wasn't that big of a deal, but he did love her so much..Super page Mom!

This is beautiful. I know you cant' do it every time but I do like it when you show the photo of what you started with so we see how much you've done to enhance it. Mark has inherited your sensitivity to words and art that the 2 of you look at something or read something and are so deeply moved by it. I agree that this would look great hanging on the wall. It's gorgeous.
