Had to have another go at Val's insect challenge. This time I chose the NZ Weta. A little bit like a cricket but a lot bigger than that. They have been around long enough to see dinosaurs come and go and to evolve into more than a 100 species, all of them endemic to NZ.
They are quite scarey looking though not aggressive. They can bite if they feel threatened.

Our friends the wetas - I do not particularly like them. Found a rather big one attached to Barry's trousers - yes he was wearing them at the time - he coped I didn't. Fantastic page for them Mary.
