When you're on one of the big ships and dock in Curacao, you're outside Willemstad proper. And this is what you see (and smell) when you disembark. By the end of the day, as the clouds trap the fumes and smoke, you pretty much can't stand it anymore, and have to go back aboard. It's a shame - I loved Willemstad, but this will probably be the overriding memory of the place.

Oh dear - there is always a down side to paradise. I remember being in Jamaica and it is the most beautiful Island but the poverty is appalling. I even saw ladies doing their washing on rocks at the side of a stream xx
