A skutsje is a type of cargo sailingship mostly used in the north of the Netherlands at the lakes in Friesland.Skutsje means small ship in the local Fries language. Nowadays there are championships every year in july for these ships. It`s very impressive to see them sailing. In the old days the skipper lived on the ship with his family and most of the time the wife was working with the skipper. It was a hard life, children hardly went to school and had to work on the ship at a very young age
