In an enchanted forest, a gigantic magical tree called the "Faraway Tree," grows. It is tall enough to reach the clouds and wide enough to contain small houses in its trunk. The tree is discovered by three children, Jo (now Joe in modern versions), Bessie (Beth) and Fanny (now Frannie). They found different magical creatures living there and a ladder at the top of tree which leads to a magical land that "moves."
