About this scrapbook page: |
One of the few photos I have of my mother when she was young. Here she is in Ukraine in the 9th grade with her class in early 1920s. One did not start formal school until one was a bit older and went up to the 10th grade. After graduating from the 10th grade one had the opportunity to go to university if they had exemplary marks. My mother was accepted into a university in Kiev but unfortunately spent only a few months there before WWII errupted and that was the end of her education in Europe.

My Mother is the 3rd girl from the left sitting on the floor SMILING(they were not supposed to smile). In the little braided frame on the left-close to the the bottom I extracted her face for a closer look!
