Many children's books illustrators got their start by illustrating covers of magazines, back in the early 1900's. This mother and child is by Jessie Wilcox Smith, one of my favorites. It was the cover of the September 1926 issue. I just love the tenderness it portrays.

I scanned the cover of the magazine and extracted the mother and child and then blended them onto paper by Vinnie Pearce. Frame is by Rhonna Farrer, recolored by me. Paper and leaf decoration at the bottom is by New Life Dreams. The little fairy doing the painting was a freebie off Digifree a few weeks ago.
