About this scrapbook page: |
This page was scrapped for The 6th Chakra Challenge. The Third Eye Chakra. In addition to Ragans painting of the Third Eye and the lotus, I also included the peacock feather. The peacock is known as the bird of 100 eyes. Due to the patterning in its tail feathers. The feathers became a favorite mythic metaphor as all- seeing witnesses to hidden transgressions. The concept found its way into religious belief as the symbol of beatific vision.

The peacock is the symbol of India and can still be found in Indian Temples. The god Krishna wore the feathers in his hair and legends tell of the sons of Shiva riding on the backs of peacocks. In early Christian times the eyes symbolized the all seeing church. This elevated the peacock to sacred emblem status, representing the pure soul and divinity.
