This is no illusion, a pair of Wedgetail Eagles in an open pen. Insert is a closeup of the further eagle. These are Australia's largest birds of prey but these two have been rescued and can not fly so are happy to stay and be fed in an open enclosure.

And seriously, I would LOVE to see an emu for real!Wish I could have shared the experience in the flesh, but I suppose this was the next best thing. Of course they're happy to stay and be fed! With all the wild budgies now extinct, what would they eat if they could fly away..? Much better for them to stay where they are and enjoy the protein rich diet of human bodyparts which is offered to them several times a day! The one in the close-up has obviously spotted the Couper clan approaching and is eyeing up a tasty morsel! Who was wearing shorts?
