For the Heart Broken Challenge.
This is Oreo, the first pet I had as an adult, and my heart and soul kitty. When he was about 2 years old, he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), and the day he was ultrasounded to assess the damage to that point, was the day my heart was broken. The journalling is exactly what the vet and techs told me, I'll never forget it.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear - Oreo is gone. (I've done so many Rainbow Bridge pages with him as the subject, I just assume that everyone knows) I lost him two years ago to congestive heart failure, as expected. For 6 years, we lived with that HCM diagnosis, and for 6 years, I expected him to be gone when I got home from work. Finally, he was. But he lived 6 years, not 2, so that was our victory.

I should say that I had Oreo for about 6 years after his diagnosis - guess I did the right things, between his medicine and watching his diet. He left me, in body, on October 29, 2008, after being in congestive heart failure for about 3 weeks.
