About this scrapbook page:
This page needs some explanation for after all the challenge is to “interpret this line.."Cry Me a River.” To me the song is not sorrowful as the lines suggest but filled with joy and nostalgia for a time in my youth when I was able to follow the music. During the 70’s I was fortunate to be able to live in New Orleans for a short time. Way pre Katrina and at that time post Mardi Gras a lot of the tourist had gone home.

Since that night I have heard that particular song sung by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Barbra Streisand and even Susan Boyles. Even as lovely and wondrous as those voices are “Cry Me A River” shall never be sung as beautiful to me as the first time I heard it. Ohh and by the way I did get to hear Boz that night too!

Shortly a small black lady of indeterminate age – remember I was young and shall I say even a bit ignorant too – came out. She stood there with a twinkle in her eyes till she had everyone’s attention and then… then she began singing that old jazz standard, “Cry me A River.” I fell headlong in love with jazz right then and there.

Playing at that moment was a local band and as I sat at the bar I noticed that there was hardly any conversation for most eyes was on the musicians. I had forgotten about Boz as I sat tapping my feet to the lovely blues.

One evening having heard Boz Scaggs was playing at a “hole in the wall” bar I tramped way off Bourbon Street and found this small house with strains of music issuing forth. Entering the dim front room, the smoke made it hard to see, however, the music... the delightful sounds that enveloped me from my heels to the roots of my hair permeated my soul.
