Last summer, a week before I was due to move house, one of my cats, Panda, managed to break a foot! Have you ever tried to STOP a cat from jumping on the bed, the sofa, the coffee table etc? He had to have a splint on for 12 weeks altogether, and as you can see, he adapted pretty well. He could even race the other cats on it (but don't tell my vet!) Thankfully, he made a full recovery, and is sitting on my desk now, getting in the way when I want to use my mouse!
