About this scrapbook page: |
The parlour in the ruins of the old cottage which John's family left around 1954.He remembers this old range, where all the meals were cooked, and the family warmed themselves in winter. He also recalls taking the shelves from this oven, wrapped in a towel, to warm his bed at night. My late mother in law would soon have taken a broom to those cobwebs!.Looks as though this place has recently been used as shelter, although now quite derelict.Someone who is not too bothered about home comforts perhaps!

Grandma M says:
The version of this in my house was a black lead range which Mom black leaded every week. It was stoked up high once a week when the tin bath was bought out of the brewhouse and put infront of the fire for me and mom - dad was banished to the garden - great memory pages - keep 'em coming xx

Oh..Sylvia. That photo gave me "flashbacks"..!I grew up in a tumbledown terraced house, a so-called "workers cottage" and we had NO home comforts such as we have today. How did we ever survive the poverty we grew up in? Nadia
