Here's a tutorial for Photoshop...

1) Opened a new 12x12 document with a white background (instead of transparent)
2) Using your shape tool (cookie cutter tool) draw a rectangle.
3) Switch to your text tool and type the word you want to use (I used the Franklin Gothic Heavy font)
4) Resize (stretch) your text to the width of the rectangle and the height you desire and then position it directly under your shape with the very top of the word slightly touching. Getting the word exactly positioned from end to end is the finicky part.
5) Right click on your text layer and choose Rasterize Type or Simplify Layer.
6) Merge your text and shape layer and you have a template!

If you use PSP.. Open your picture.. open a new 12x12 canvas any background color and paste the picture as a new layer.
with your selection tool set at rectangle draw a section at the bottom, top or side, the length of the pic and about as wide as you want your text to be. Edit cut, this part of the pic will be moved to clipboard.(you will use it in a few)
Type your word and place it wherever you cut the picture.. use your Raster Deform or pick tool to resize and stretch. convert it to a raster layer. with your selection tool still set at rectangle, select the word and then click in the center of the rectangle.. ?Each letter should have marching ants. .From the menu selection, defloat.. then Edit, paste as a new layer the portion of the pic you cut..place it on top of the selected word. you should see the word still selected. Now do Selections invert, and hit your delete key.. your word should be filled in with the portion of the pic you deleted. Selections select none.

oops ran out of room...

Make sure you dont change the order of the layers...if you do this as i described it should be perfect.

One thought when you paster your picture on the new canvas.. resize it to the size you want before you do the word...

Good luck !! and have fun.. because it is fun..
