Embellishments/Printing

Hi! I am just a beginner but I have lots of experience with altering images and have created desktop wallpapers and avatars. I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7. When I download embellishments, the background of the embellishment is white. When I copy it on it's own layer on my scrapbook page background, the white shows up and the embellishment doesn't look right. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Also, for printing my pages, what do I need? I have an ink-jet printer, but I know it will not feed 12x12 pages through it.

Are you saving it as a png file or a jpeg file? A jpeg file will leave the white show, a png won't.
