HI guys, any idea how i can extract a particular picture from an image? I tried it in the last few days but i used the lasso tool..(free select)..and its sooo tedious using the free select and then copy apart from the fact that it doesnot turn out to bee neat!...i am sure there must be a better way. Thx fr any tips

Make sure that you "close" your selection by connecting the last line to the first. Click on the circle, known as an anchor. then you have to hit the enter key. This should give you the traveling ants all along where you made scissor marks. CTRL would make more sense, but GIMP was originally made for Linux, not windows. Good luck!
If you know how to use masks a Quickmask also works well. I find it doesn't leave some of the edges that even intelligent scissors does.
You could also use SIOX. I downloaded GIMP 2.4 not too long ago and it has a new selection editior. You select your background, then the foreground and GIMP does the rest.

2.4 is only a release candidate. It's not a stable version yet. The only problem I have is that it will occassionally crash. I have to remember to save my project on a regular basis.
