Digital Image Pro
I'm not exactly new, but didnt know what category to put this in. If anyone uses Digital Image Pro, and older software, but a good one, I need some help with a challenge coming up by Dawn, called NeatNameFrames. If anyone has this software, and can tell me how to cut a name from a photo and make the name look like its part of the photo, please tell me the steps to accomplish this. To me her example looks like thats what shes asking for. I can cut a name from a photo with no problem, but it would just be a name cut from the photo and does not look like it s a name cut out and is part of the photo. Thanks for any help on this, I am not able to figure thie one out. I don't have Digital Image Pro but would also like to know how to do this. I can cut a name out of a photo but not so it's part of the photo. I mainly use Craft Artist Professional 2 and photoshop elements7. Hope someone can help.

Hello it took me a while to figure this one and I did it with Paint shop Pro. But there is how I did it:
You need two layers of the same photos that you will blend at the end. You will write the name on a third layer, select all the letter then reverse and placing you on the layer 1 of the photo you will delete it. You do not need the layer of the name anymore.
On the other photo you will crop a rectangle that include all the part of the name (from one side to another). Like always it is difficult for me to explain it in English hope you understand

Hi ScrapyMante, do you know if it can be done on Paint.Net? I'm trying to figure it out with my Digital Image, but not sure I can. I'm frustrated.

this is how I did the photo in the example: in photoshop elements I open a transparent layer then click on "type", choose my font then type in the name or word I want to use, the color you choose doesn't matter but I use black, then I open any background cut a rectangle from it then pull it onto the transparent where the name/word is. I place the rectangle against the top of the letters and resize it to match the length of the word. Now I open a 2nd transparent layer and pull in the box with the letters (in essence this is now a photo mask).

Now I can lay my photo over the box and letters and clip my photo just as I would with a photo mask.

If you use other software, as long as you can open a transparent background and if you have created your own photo mask before, you can easily do this. Hope this helps...Dawn

Dawn, what are you talking about clipping your photo?

Using Digital Image I see nowhere about clipping a photo, and was wondering if their was another term for that. I have never made a photo mask, sorry.

I have digital image pro and was just trying to figure it out for you, now let's see if I can explain it. LOL! First Type the text that your want to use (I think you need to make it all capital letters for the best results) Now create a rectangle. Fill them both with the same color. I used black. Make them the approx size of the photo 4x6 or 6x4. Now click on the "Effects" tab, then select "picture" then select "open a picture" find the picture that you want and click on it. Wahla! You can then move your photo around a bit it you like. Then click "done". Hope this helps.

Charlotte, the "clipping" I referred to is in photoshop elements, I don't know what it might be called in other software. Sounds like belle15 has a great and pretty simple explanation. I didn't realize this challenge would create such frustration for everyone, but hope it all works out and many of you discover a whole new technique (which is what I am trying to accomplish), but not at the expense of causing distress...LOL

No problem, Dawn,I have been playing around with belle's instructions, thought I had it one time, but my my cutout was not right. And I love learning new things, and I'm sure I'm having more problems with it than most. So don't worry, if I don't get it right before the challenge, I will keep trying. I just get aggravated with myself, when it's probably not that hard, and everyone has different software, andit's hard to help someone if you dont have same software as them. I'm sure belle will help me more, so you are good at challenges, and keep them up. Always fun learning new things and I bet some nice pages come out of this. Thanks for trying, Hugggggs

I just want to say thanks to all who made an effort to help me accomplish this technique, which turned out to be pretty simple on Digital Image Pro that I use a lots. belle15 (Linda) has the same software, and she was a big help. Her instructions were great and I got to where I needed to be, but was one step that was keeping me from getting this technique right. So for some reason, my brain woke up, and I tried something on my own to see if it would work, and it did, but after talking to Linda this morning, what I did to get it to work, was not the actual way, but I learned 2 ways to cut a name from a photo. Anyway, thanks again, you ladies are great. Good luck on all your pages, looking forward to seeing all the NeatNameFrames, from you all. Hugggs to all !!!!

Wow ScrapyMatante, you did great instructions for those other programs too, you should leave them, I'm sure they will be of great help.
Here is the link to the insructions for Digital Image in case someone else needs them. http://www.scrapbookflair.com/belle15/Instructions_for__LadynRed_44_/page1
If I figure it out for Craft Artist I will post here as well.

I did it better in another way
and sent a copy to Dawn. Anyone who wants it can MP me and I will give them the link. I realise that putting it here is permanent if I want to remove it later after the challenge is done

I may have to one day try to learn a new software if I have to buy a new computer and the Digital Image is not compatible, but it is really a good one. I am researching now to see if I will be able to still have it.I have Version 10 of the Digital Image Pro. And using Vista now!

Crystina,
Scrapaholic247 uses PaintNet a lot so if you don't get an answer you could contact her. Also if you do a search, there are additional plugins you can add. I don't use it much at all myself.
