This link is an extraction...Haley's image was pulled entirely from the original photo and placed in the scrap. Even though she is partially outside the heart frame this is an extraction NOT an OOB

This link shows an OOB...the original photo is in the frame but the left hand side is cropped so that her arm can extend out over the frame, same with the dolphin.

This link is another OOB...the original photo is in the frame but I extracted part of the tractor so that it looks as if it is coming right out of the photo.
I hope this clarifies the difference between an extraction and an OOB.

Dawn on the OOB extractions, do you leave the origional photo in tact complete, or do you crop just the part that the extraction ill be added to. I am just trying these OOB pages, and I m going to post some I have made, hope they are ok. I can't even tell where you added the extraction part to the tractor. Thats why I asked if you left the origional photo as it was, or do you crop some of it before you add the extracted part. Thanks

great examples - this should be used for all future oob challenges as half pages are not true oobs but extractions

I agree with Stacey, Dawn. Your examples are absolutely spot on. If the original background stays with the image, it's an OOB, if the focal part of the image is removed from its original background, it's an extraction.
