Still above 100F

I love to cook on the grill, but when it is over 100F, it's too danged hot to stand infront of a grill. I think we have been over 100 degrees for 20 of the past 22 days. ACK! I never signed up for this! Oh well, I'll post a cooler page to remind me of cooler times to come.

Hot and busy

Well, yesterday the news says we hit 107 degrees F...dang that is hot...even for Texas in June! So, instead of putzing in the garden, I have been scanning old 35mm slides that my mother sent me. I found these of my first fishing trip to Canada. We flew in by sea plane and stayed for 1 week. What I remember most was the great fishing, wonderful water, and ever present mosquitoes. Ouch, I think I lost an pint of blood per day!

What a couple of weeks it has been

Lets see, it started with a daughter's wedding, the middle was filled with three to four house guests (one infant 1-2 grand kids), and ended with a 2 week grand daughter visit. I am exhausted, enjoyed it but now it is time for some R&R. Thankfully, Memorial day weekend is rapidly approaching. Excellent.

One heck of a project

OK, I am a wimp...when I build things, I tend to do so slowly. We decided to build a small garden shed. No problem...but is has taken many hours. Actually, many many hours. I am sooooo slow, and everything has to be just right. Well, look at the photos, and you will see that the trees have no leafs when we first start, and when finished the trees are a sea of green. Oh, well, it is now done, and for a shed, it is a thing of beauty!

What a Cat.

She looks so sweet doesn't she...however, beneath that sweet exterior is one mean son of a cat! She will hunt you down and chomp you good. that is unless you are me, for some reason she likes me and hates the wife and kids. Seems so strange as they are the ones that bought her and raised her. Oh well, that is life.

Halloween has come!

...and alas, it has already gone. It is one of my favorite times of the year. This year, we decorated well, had great weather, and handed candy out to 48 various demons, ghouls, and ballerinas. All told, it was a most successful night.

Thoughts still of my vacation

Now as Summer has gone its merry way, it remains quite warm here in Texas. So, my mind naturally wonders back to our recent trip to New England...I know it is chilly there now. The perfect place for a fine Halloween. I managed to take some very nice shots of Rockport Harbor during our last visit. Oh, to be back near the coast...oh, well.

Got my Digi camera working

For the past couple of years we have made it a point to visit one of my childhood friends (and his entire family) while they are staying on LBI in New Jersey. This always means a couple of fun days at the beach, and of course some great seafood meals. I was lucky to get my broken digi camera to release me these photos. As you can see, a fun time was had by all.

Vacation Accomplished

Vacations come and go soooooo fast. I have not yet put up any new pages from our trip...mostly because our digital camera croaked near the end of our vacation. Fortunately, we have lots of fun photos saved on the chip, so I will be making some happy pages soon. Since we visited some of my dearest friends down on the Jersey Shore. I figured it would be OK to post a picture from last years visit. I hope all of you have a great Labor Day.

Time to GET GONE!

As they must say in some country song...it is about time I got gone! It has been way too long since our last vacation. Like last year, we are headed east (form a very hot Texas) to the cooler environs of the East Coast. We will visit my folks, and then spend some time in Cape May (where one of my Sisters has a beach house), then we will visit my BFF (since 1963) on Long Beach Island, and then we head up to Ipswich and Rockport in wonderful old New England. It has been 5 years since I have had good fried clams! Take care all, and play nice while I am away.

Really getting warm now!

Having spent so much of my adult life in New England, this Texas heat thing is really something I am not totally used too. However, I have learned to adapt. I visit the local swimming pool as often as possible, and Lily (grand kid #1), loves to swim with me. Here is a page made from a recent trip to the "cool blue". Don't get me wrong, Texas weather rocks in November, December, February, etc...but come July and August UGH!

Getting warm here!

Well, here in central Texas Spring is past being sprung. It has been perfect weather to enjoy our "new" screened in back porch. Mostly, I sit there and look lovingly at the garden. tomato plants are already almost three feet tall, an last week we harvested our first "jumbo" radish. Soon, it will be too warm to enjoy the yard in the heat of the day, but we put ceiling fans on the porch, so we should stay cool there. Now, if that does not work, there is always an ice cold beer! Have a good spring Y'all.

Christmas has come and gone.

Well, that was quick! The holidays have just buzzed by again this year. Granted, they were a whole lot of fun! But now, all the decorations have come down and things look a little stark (yes, we really do pimp the house up for the holidays). Anyway, being located in central Texas, we really do not get allot of Cold Christmas like weather). This weekend it should hit the mid 70's so then I will take down the few remaining holiday lights and get ready fro Spring. I hope Santa brought you everything you asked for!

Christmas is coming...are you ready?

I am one of those folks that tend to shop early (like I often start while on Summer vacation, since I love to shop while traveling...but I really do not need anything, so buying early Christmas gifts works for me.) Now that I live in Texas, I really do not see much in the way of snow, so here are a couple of pages of photos going back to the 70's...back when man were men, and snow came hard and heavy!

I love Halloween!

I am a big kid...I make no bones about that. As such, I just love Halloween. I love the colors, I love the spooky, I love the candy, and I love the excuse to scare the little munchkins as they beg for a candy bar. This year, it was wonderfully warm in Texas, thus we all hung out in the front yard giving candy to the kidlings as they cruised the street. We got to visit with neighbors who were all doing the same. Boo Y'all...attached are a couple of appropriate pages. Enjoy until next year!

Vacation Photos

Well, got back from vacation to the New Jersey Shore and had a blast...It has been 25 years since my last visit. Now my older sister has a home near Cape may. So I took a photo of her and her hubby infront of one of those old victorian homes...had to make a page. Enjoy.

Visiting Home

I just returned from a trip back to New Jersey (from whence I originally came). While I have not lived there since 1982, my entire family is still located with in 20 mile of my parents home. When I visit, I do look forward to taking a few shots of some of my lovely nieces. Here is a shot that I just love. I will soon be doing some more pages of our trip back east...(Including some nice shots of the Jersey shore...Cape May and Long Beach Island). Stay tuned!

hot hot hot

Well, beiing June it is starting to get hot here in Texas...real hot. Other than the weather, my big news is that I am no longer a forty something...I am now a 50. Yep, hit that milestone real quick...never saw it coming. However, I must admit that it has been a blast so far, though I still have so much to do. We had a great party (all arranged in secret by my very lovely and oh so hot wife!). Anyway, attached are the photos we she took, and as you can see fun was had by all...and of course I do not look a day over 48!

Ariel...AKA death cat

OK, Ariel is often the subject of my stranger pages. She is a very weird cat...she wants to be around people, but she prefers to bite people as opposed to being petted. Lately, she is getting friendlier, but boy does she have a long way to go...and she will actually hunt down and attack Janis! Well, her are her pages.....MEOW!

Missing my Hog

Some days, the weather here in Texas is sooooo nice that I really miss my old Harley-Davidson. Today, it is in the high 60s, sunny, and just a perfect day to go for a long ride....to bad I solf that old sled to buy a 42 acre ranch in Colorado...(now, that was a nice spread)...but I miss the hog more than I miss the ranch. funny how that works. OH well, I do have a photo or too to remind me of the fun I had riding some fine Milwaukee Iron. (By the way, you are looking at a 1975 FLH 1200 dressed in a 1947 color scheme...just toooooo pretty!)

Dad's Big Day

My father recently celebrated his BIG 80th birthday. I made it a point of bringing all the scrapbook pages that I made of him in many old photos I had stuffed in an old shoe box. Needless to say, they were a hit. People just loved seeing old photos put into the new context of a fully decorated page. Since my Father had a career in advertising, I had a number of really great old photos to work with. Today I am posting a few pages made from his party photos. Happy Birthday Dad!

the same photo done two ways

I really love this photo...how many people have such a great shot of their Dad dressed as a cowboy...particularly a Dad who has spent his entire life living in New Jersey! I find it amazing how different a photo can look when you use different backgrounds and embellishments. So I have posted two of my favorite pages...enjoy!

fixing up old pages

One of the things that I like about this site is that they have lots of new free art content for us to down load and use. I am always looking for ways to improve my scrap pages, and sometimes a new background or embellishment triggers something and I get creative. Below are two pages that I did recently...however, the new 4th of July collection had some things that just made me have to redo this page in red, white and blue...nothing better than Lexington green to put on a patriotic page. While I liked the old page, I must admit that I love the new page.

Father's Dad

Well, Dad is nearly 80 and I wanted to do a Father's day page that he (and I) would get a kick out of. Now I love old cars, and Dad has owned some beautys in his day...so I figured I would combine the two to make my father's Day tribute. Unfortunately, he now owns a "pimped out" dodge Mini-Van (which they totally love), but it would not make such a fine scrapbook page. So I settled on some the the cooler cars he owned way back when. I of course used a vintage photo of dad and some of Gigi's neat Fathers day collection elements. I like the results quite a bit, and Dad got to talk about his favorite cars...the winner was the 1952 Packard...gotta find some photos of that baby!

More Scanning

We went and visited some Vintage rail road cars...it was in a private collection, but they did give use tickets and a little booklet about the small railraod that their family owns. I scanned the ticket (because it looked kind of cool), and then I scanned in the text of the booklet (as it saved me from having to do a boat load of typing/journaling). I thought the pages came out OK.

Scanning Wood.

Here I scanned the top of a fancy wood box...This furniture quality finish really looks good as an accent. In this case I used the Scrapbook Flair photo editing software to color shift the wood tone towards the red side a bit. After all, Russian Red is their color.

OK, I am a scan-a-holic...here I scanned an old note card (with a map on the cover), some foreign currency (I hope I do not go to jail for that), and some classified ads from a 1951 newspaper I found in the attic. I think these things make very interesting elements to a scrapbook page. By scanning you can have virtually an unlimited number of cool backgrounds. I have a cheap $89 HP scanner, so any one can do this and make unique pages and books.

Cowboy Up?

not everyone has a photo of their Dad dressed in weird outfits, but if you do, consider making a fun book by scanning in an old post card of similar subject matter. I found this old cowboy post card from the 1950's in an antique mall for $1.50...I think it looks kind of cool, and highlights the weirdness of the photo....
