This is one of my favorite flowers here in the desert where flowers are scarce and cacti are plentiful for their flower bloomettes! When opening up early in the morning they almost resemble a rose.
I have learned to appreciate color in the desert. Native Americans used peeled pads of these plants on wounds, applied the juice to warts, & drank pad tea for lung ailments. Dried seeds of devil’s-tongue cacti can be crushed or ground into flour & used in soup as a thickener. Thank you for C/V!

These were taken in our backyard before my husband's passing. They come in pink colors and yellow colors. The pads can also come in purple colors. One has to be careful in the desert because everything is prickly and sharp for it to survive! We have many citrus trees that bloom in January, February and March and they are VERY SHARP.
